Fresh off of her
husband's primary victory in Nevada Tuesday night, Melania Trump is giving
voters a glimpse into her life as the wife of Donald Trump. The Slovenian
former model opened up about life before and after her marriage to Trump and
her husband's controversial presidential campaign in a rare interview that
aired Wednesday on MSNBC. "It's amazing what's going on, and we're having
fun," the business mogul's wife told "Morning Joe" co-host Mika
Brzezinski. She also spoke of her own journey to U.S. citizenship, pointing out
while her husband has had harsh words for undocumented immigrants, he's never
disparaged those who have come to the U.S. legally. "I follow the law the
way it's supposed to be ... I applied for a visa. I went by the system. I went
by the law, and you should do that," Melania Trump said.
Melania Trump brushed
off the criticism her husband has received over his controversial policy
proposals, such as temporarily banning Muslims from immigrating into the U.S.
"We're prepared for that. We know people will judge him and call him
names. They don't give him enough credit," Melania Trump said. "What
he said is it would be temporary, and it is not for all the Muslims. He wants
to protect America," the potential first lady explained. "What's
going on in the world ... it's very dangerous, you have people coming into the
country, and we don't know who they are, and what they will do." And
despite his war of words and prolonged feud with Fox News host Megyn Kelly,
which started when she asked him to explain a series of insults he's used
against women, Melania Trump says her husband treats woman equal to men.
"Women are treated equal. He treats women equal. It's not woman or man,
you are human," she said.
Melania Trump has been
largely absent from the campaign trail, spending most of her time in New York
with the couple's 9-year-old son, Barron. But last week, she addressed her
husband's supporters after his win in South Carolina. "I like to keep life
as normal as possible for my son, Barron," she told Brzezinski. She did
reveal, however, that while she's largely quiet on the campaign trail, she
communicates with her husband frequently and lets him know what she thinks. Do
I agree with him all the time? No, and I tell him," she said.
"Sometimes he listens to my opinion, sometimes he doesn't.
